iPhone 18 Pro wallpapers: exact sizes, depth effect, and seeds to make your own

The iPhone 18 Pro renders at 1206×2622 native pixels, the same resolution Apple has shipped on this tier since the 16 Pro. Its larger sibling, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, renders at 1320×2868, carried over from the 16 Pro Max generation. Together they're the two Pro models Apple announced in September 2026. This guide gives the exact pixels for each, explains how the lock-screen depth effect decides (unchanged from earlier models), and offers four original seeded gradients, rendered live in your browser by the same engine as the wallpaper maker at your model's exact panel size.

Two sizes, both already familiar

The iPhone 18 Pro uses a 6.3-inch, 1206×2622 panel — identical to the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses a 6.9-inch, 1320×2868 panel, the same panel as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both use a 3x display scale, so native pixels are exactly three times the point dimensions quoted in developer documentation: 402×874 for the Pro, 440×956 for the Pro Max. Export at the pixel numbers, since the image has to fill every pixel of the panel.

That repetition is the headline here: if you already have a wallpaper sized for a 16 Pro, a 17 or a 17 Pro, it fits the matching 18 Pro model pixel for pixel, with nothing to resize or re-export. Aspect ratios across the three most recent Pro-tier years (2024, 2025 and 2026) sit between 2.1727 and 2.1741, close enough that a composition made for one survives a move to another with at most a sliver of crop at the edges.

The numbers on this page come from the device table in the site's code, the same table that drives the wallpaper maker's picker. Its iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max entries were cross-checked against two independent published sources on 2026-09-23. The iPhone wallpaper size chart lists every verified model from the iPhone 14 generation to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the maker's custom size option covers anything older.

Depth effect, unaffected by the new sizes

The depth effect is the lock-screen treatment where the clock slips behind the subject of your wallpaper. It works the same way on the 18 Pro line as it has for several generations: when you set a photo, the phone runs subject segmentation on it, and if it finds a subject it trusts (a person, a pet, a statue, a skyline against clear sky), it layers the clock behind that subject's top edge. Nothing about this changes that decision: the 18 Pro's panel is the one the 17 Pro already shipped with, points (402×874) included.

When the effect refuses a photo you expected to work, the cause is usually one of three measurable things: the image is smaller than the panel's native pixels, the subject's top edge sits outside the band where the clock layering happens, or the clock region is too busy or too mid-toned to stay legible. The depth-effect checker measures all three against your exact model, in your browser, without the photo leaving your device. Only the phone runs Apple's segmentation model, so the final call always happens there. Gradients have no subject, so the layering never appears on them, including the four in the next section.

Make your own: four seeds sized for these phones

Each card below is a recipe: an integer seed, one of the site's eight original palettes, the maker's Auto control-point setting, and one 18 Pro-line model's exact pixels. The thumbnails are painted live by the maker's engine. None of them is a stored image, and none is anyone else's artwork. "Open in maker" hands the recipe over as URL parameters; from there you can export the PNG at native resolution, reroll the seed, swap the palette, or switch the device.

If none of the four suits you, press New beside the seed in the maker. Each palette has 999,999 seeds, any seed renders again from its recipe, and any device in the picker can use any of them. For two phones in one house, the matching wallpapers tool renders coordinated pairs from a single seed and exports each one at its phone's exact size.

Frequently asked questions

What size wallpaper does an iPhone 18 Pro need?
Two sizes across the line, in portrait native panel pixels: 1206×2622 for the iPhone 18 Pro, and 1320×2868 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. An image at exactly those dimensions gives iOS no reason to scale or crop it. Both rows in the chart above link to the wallpaper maker set to that model, so you never have to type the numbers.
Do wallpapers made for a 16 Pro or 17 Pro fit an 18 Pro?
Pixel for pixel. The iPhone 18 Pro uses the same 1206×2622 panel as the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max uses the same 1320×2868 panel as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A wallpaper exported for any of those earlier models needs no resizing on the matching 18 Pro model. The full size chart lists every model's exact numbers if you want to check a different pairing.
Why doesn't the depth effect work with my wallpaper?
The phone's own subject segmentation decides, and it needs a recognizable subject such as a person, a pet or a building against sky. Three causes are measurable and fixable: an image smaller than the panel's native pixels, a subject whose top edge sits outside the band where the clock layering happens, and a clock area too low-contrast to read. You can test all three in your browser with the depth-effect checker. A flat gradient has no subject, so it is normal for the depth effect to stay off with one.
Are the wallpapers on this page Apple's images?
No. Every wallpaper here is an original render from this site's own engine: an integer seed and one of eight original palettes, drawn live in your browser and downloadable at your model's exact native pixels. Nothing is copied, traced, or recreated from anyone's artwork, and this site has no affiliation with Apple. iPhone model names appear here as facts about the devices the sizes belong to.
Will a seed from this page always make the same wallpaper?
Yes. The engine is deterministic: the same seed, palette, point count and size produce the same image every time, on any machine, which is why this page links recipes and hosts no image files. The bytes of the downloaded PNG can differ between browsers, because PNG encoders differ, but the picture is the same, down to every color value at every pixel.
